When bodysurfing it’s relatively easy to get enough momentum going from a standing start, but this becomes increasingly difficult once out of your depth.
Waves are known to travel at about 5 m/s and a speed of about 3 m/s is needed in order to catch a wave. There will also be the undertow just ahead of the wave which has the affect of moving you backwards. This is where flippers become a necessity.
Viper fins (or flippers) have proved their worth over the years as one of the best flippers on the market, and come highly recommended here at Bodysurfing. We have found them to be long lasting, they float, and most of all rigid enough to give that quick impulse start that is needed in order to catch the bigger waves.
